By Andrew Collins. Greater Miami and Dade County, one of the premier nightclubbing and partying spots in North America, has long cultivated a highly visible gay and lesbian scene. The number of gay bars in Miami has actually declined a bit over the years, but most of the ones that remain still draw huge crowds, especially on weekends, and are definitely top spots for dancing into the late-night and early morning hours. Also, whether you're in trendy South Beach, historic Coconut Grove, or the hipster-favored Wynwood Arts District in Midtown Miami, you're likely to find a strong LGBT presence at many of the area's mainstream clubs, bars, restaurants, and coffeehouses.
But location, as they say, is everything, and hotels near the gay beach at 12th St. The Doubletree Surfcomber plays host to some of the area's biggest gay events, and as such is arguably Miami's gay-friendliest hotel. It was the official host hotel for the Winter Party -- a week-long gay festival -- as well as lesbian Aqua girl party. Its heated pool with a waterfall was the setting for pool parties for both events. A popular place to see and be seen for both gay and straight exercisers, the gym is characterized by Moroccan decor, club music, and mood lighting.
The reason? Sex and pleasure are essential to human nature. This is a civil rights issue. Miami is home to some of the largest all-girl parties Aqua Girl and Sweet Heat.
